Straum × TRTS Jan Mayen Titanium “Stormy Seas” — Where Time Meets Survival

Norwegian independent watchmaker Straum proudly unveils a limited-edition collaboration with The Real Time Show podcast: the Straum × TRTS Jan Mayen Titanium “Stormy Seas”.

This special release is rooted in a true and unforgettable moment. Inspired by co-host. and longtime Straum partner, Rob Nudds’ harrowing encounter with a Force 9 gale during the 2022 Straum Explorers Club expedition to the remote Arctic island of Jan Mayen, the watch channels the raw power and fragile beauty of nature at its most unforgiving. More than a timepiece, it is a reminder of how quickly the ocean can humble even the most prepared, and how moments of danger can reshape our understanding of time itself.

The Stormy Seas edition sits on Straum’s already-acclaimed titanium Jan Mayen platform, but the soul here lies in its colours and contrasts. The dial echoes the ominous slate-blue of storm-lashed Arctic waters, sharply punctuated by the vivid fluorescent orange of survival suits worn during the ordeal. It’s not merely inspired by the expedition — it is the emotional memory of that moment, translated into steel, sapphire, and pigment. A bright fluor-orange seconds hand sweeps across the surface, its visibility a symbolic lifeline to precious seconds when time slows and awareness sharpens. In the context of a survival situation, every passing second matters. Here, that urgency has been given form.

The case remains a beautifully executed 39mm shell sculpted from bead-blasted Grade 5 titanium, lightweight yet brutally resilient. Straum’s mastery of titanium finishes is on full display: soft, matte textures meet crisp polished facets and razor-sharp lines, giving the watch a quiet authority and tool-focused presence. This isn’t flash; it’s function wearing elegance as armour.

True to Straum’s pursuit of real-world usability, the watch incorporates the brand’s titanium coupling system, a robust, engineered quick-change mechanism machined from the same Grade 5 titanium as the case. It connects directly to the mid-case, providing a seamless transition to the custom FKM rubber strap developed specifically for this collection. That strap has been refined over more than a year, breathable internal scalloping, a wrist-hugging curved tip, and a titanium buckle shaped to reduce wear make it both tactical and refined. It feels less like a strap and more like equipment, a natural extension of the watch’s purpose.

Inside, the La Joux-Perret G101 automatic calibre delivers a 68-hour power reserve. Visible through the sapphire caseback, it beats at 4Hz with smooth precision, retaining hacking seconds and manual winding for true engagement. It’s a movement selected not only for performance, but because this watch demands a mechanical engine with a spirit strong enough to match its story.

On the wrist, the Stormy Seas edition all but disappears, and that’s the goal. It is engineered to feel like second skin, balanced and quiet, waiting until you glance at it to reveal its intensity. This is a watch born from a moment when the world narrowed to the sound of wind, the crush of waves, the weight of breath, and the ticking of time. A reminder that sometimes, awareness of every passing second isn’t luxury, it’s survival.

Only a handful of watches manage to bridge adventure, emotion, and minimal Scandinavian refinement. Even fewer are tied so personally to a lived moment of vulnerability and awe. The Straum × TRTS Jan Mayen Titanium “Stormy Seas” is not about nostalgia or marketing, it is about memory, respect, and the thin line between calm seas and chaos. It asks one question of its wearer: When time matters most, what anchors you?
