When it comes to horological elegance, few timepieces command attention quite like the iconic dive watch. Dive watches were born out of necessity, crafted to withstand the extreme conditions of deep-sea exploration. One cannot deny the undeniable appeal of a well-crafted dive watch. The bold, chunky design, often characterised by a large, easy-to-read dial and luminescent markers, exudes a sense of rugged sophistication. Style And Substance Collide
Taking a look at my collection, 95% or higher are dive/tool watches. The majority are vintage, as they captivate my interest the most. I don’t really have the need for a dress watch and as my background is engineering, my subconscious has always guided me towards a diver. I’m definitely among the higher percentage of owners who don’t dive, (although I did try it once on a holidays many years ago) and I’m not a very good swimmer. However watches with a purpose just seem to float my boat.
I’m drawn to vintage tool/divers, although nowadays, the choice for buy new is so vast. They are now made in a plethora of colours, materials and designs. I’ll be adding more newer watches to my collection since owning mostly vintage pieces restricts me from exposing them to water – a somewhat ironic situation given their intended purpose.
I only really got seriously into watches around 6 years ago, but they have alway been of interest. Having a platform for Mark and I to learn and hone our craft, trying to present it in such a way, that shows our passion and love of watches is a blessing. Mark’s unique take on photography, captures most watches in a such a fascinating way. Highlighting the case, dial or hands, the macro shots let you see so much details. Seeing watches up that close, gives a whole new perspective on them, how they have worn and all the battle scars that tell a story. Over time, I know my tastes will change and watches will come and go from my collection. What will remain the constant, is the passion. That my friends, is what collections should show. Have fun collecting, never stop learning and just enjoy whatever you are wearing.
