It’s neither a bird nor a plane, but the new Bronze GMT from Yema, really is Super-man!
Both Mark and I own vintage Superman watches and they will have their blogs at a later stage. But for now as it’s only a few months old, let’s talk about this Bronze beauty.
I’d been after a bronze watch for a while, but It was the Kickstarter ad that first caught my eye. At those hugely discounted prices, I had to have one. There were only 1948 (founded year) pieces made, they are a reissue of the iconic watches from the late ’60s.
From the minute you first cast your eyes on it, you see what all the fuss was about. The stunning blue dial contrasts with the bronze case. The red accent of the GMT and Second hands popping out under the domed crystal draw you in. Getting up close, you see the attention to detail and the finish, which for the money is astounding.
The whole look of the watch oozes appeal to the mass market and having something different in your collection is a must. They pour the Swiss Super-LumiNova C1 into small bronze frames and then apply it to the dial. Giving you small pool-like glows on the indices and hands which is incredible, looking almost backlit at times.
Under the bonnet driving this 39mm version is the all new in-house caliber YEMA3000 GMT 29 jewelled movement, with a 42 hour power reserve. To compliment the bronze case your also treated to two 19mm straps, a black tropic and brown leather, both with matching bronze buckles
I have had the watch now for a few months, and really like it. It has a great presence on the wrist without feeling too bulky. Now the patina has slowly started, its now really looking much better and will over time age with perfection. I swapped out the strap for a matching blue/leather denim and for me, it ticks all the boxes.
Mark – I agree with Neil, this is a great looking watch. I remember seeing it when it first arrived and opened it in the sunshine. When the sun hit the dial it had the wow factor. The contrast between the dark blue dial, gilt edged indicies and white hands and lume works so well. Yema have done a great job here. The red-edged GMT hand and pip on the second hand add a splash of colour. Now its been aged a little and matched to the blue Diloy canvas strap this is a perfect summer watch.
