The Slimmer Sibling
As a devoted enthusiast of Yema, I proudly own several pieces, including a vintage Navygraf from the ’70s. The new 2024 version boasts numerous enhancements over its predecessors. Yema, known for its rich history of dive watches, continually innovates and refines its designs. This latest iteration builds on the success of the Superman Slim CMM.20, applying a similar slimming approach to the Navygraf. The result? The Yema Navygraf Slim CMM.20, is an impressive and sleek update to a classic design.
The Navygraf offers a more straightforward and less demanding design compared to its larger counterpart, the Superman. It was created not for professional divers, but for recreational divers seeking a reliable and stylish timepiece for their underwater adventures.
This seems a much more casual affair, built for everyday use, a GADA watch perhaps. Slimmed down for a modern audience, with travel and work in mind as opposed to diving per se.
More Refinement
The simplified scale on the un-directional diving bezel is printed on a sapphire insert, giving a super glossy, piano-like look. The markers are printed in BGW9 Grade A Super LumiNova, making them really pop in low light.
The double-domed crystal gives a nod to the watches of the past but does add 2mm in height. However, the slimmer movement and case almost negates this.
The high gloss lacquered dial has applied hour markers, with small triangle arrows at 12,3 6 & 9, all filled with Super, which match the polished hands.
The splash of yellow on the Navygraf logo is mirrored with the second hand and is the signature of the Yema Navygraf. Overall there is a touch of elegance and sophistication in this piece and one I applaud.
Less Hardcore Then The Superman
The star of the show has to be the CMM.20 in-house movement. This is not Yemas first rodeo, when it comes to in-house movements, as they have several under their belts. The Cmm.20 offers a micro-rotor, with a 70-hour power reserve, the blackened movement and bridges are shown off through a sapphire case back.
Yemma keeps its signature 19mm lug width and pairs the case with a black-grained calfskin strap. While this is limited to only 200 pieces, I hope at some point they standardise this model within their range. Priced at £1,499.00 this is definitely worth a second look for any keen collectors.
Conclusion
Yema watches represent a compelling blend of heritage, innovation, and timeless style. With a history rooted in exceptional craftsmanship and a commitment to quality, Yema has consistently delivered watches that appeal to both collectors and enthusiasts.
Whether you’re drawn to their iconic dive watches, appreciate the precision of their mechanical movements, or simply admire their elegant designs, Yema offers something for every watch aficionado. As the brand continues to evolve, it remains dedicated to honouring its legacy while embracing the future of horology. For anyone looking to add a distinctive and storied timepiece to their collection, Yema stands as a testament to the enduring appeal of fine watchmaking. So perhaps give the Yema Navygraf Slim CMM.20 some consideration.
