Nomadic Emerald Abyss – Maraí 401

Nomadic has consistently impressed fans, and their Emerald Abyss – Maraí 401 is no exception. While some might draw parallels to the Tudor Black Bay 58, it’s more accurate to say that the Maraí 401 is inspired by it rather than a direct homage. Nomadic has crafted something uniquely special at an exceptional price point. Having tried it on, the watch exudes comfort, hugging the wrist perfectly with its short, down-turned lugs.
The no-date version, particularly with the striking green dial, stands out. Nomadic’s signature yellow seconds hand contrasts beautifully against the green, adding a vibrant touch. The finish quality is remarkable, especially considering its price of £995.00. Nomadic has truly achieved a superb balance of style, comfort, and value with this piece.
Nomadic should be a brand that more should take note of, as they are doing great things and at a price that is much more attainable than some.

Certina DS PH200M
Certina first released this watch in 2018, as a reincarnation of the classic diver from the 1960’s of the same name. Now the DS PH200M, once issued to the US Navy and Royal Australian Navy Aquanauts, has been faithfully recreated. With the likes of a Cross-Hair Dial and a fully hashed bezel, highlighted in a nautical blue with gold highlights.
It has the donut-style raised bezel, which was used a great deal on many watches in the 1960s, although they would have been made from Bakelite. The white Sword hands paired with the blue, give this a very nautical feel. The DS in the model refers to the “Double Security” that these watches offer, a system that keeps the glass firmly attached to the case.
With 200m of depth to play with and 80 hours of power reserve, this watch has plenty to offer. The scratch-resistant ceramic bezel and exhibition case back is more proof that the DS PH200M offers a lot of bang for buck and at £895.00 is exceptional value.

In Conclusion
While £1000.00 these days is for some, considered a relatively small budget, there is still plenty of choice at this level. Make sure you shop around and try on as many watches as you can, until you find the one for you. If you do have a budget, stick to it, as it very easy to spend more than you had planned.
Remember, you can get as much enjoyment out of collecting cheaper watches, as you can of more expensive ones. It’s all about the journey, not about how much you can spend, so make sure whilst you’re out and about to enjoy the view too and to look at as many brands as you can.
We will be having other Top 5 guides out, based on brand, price, colour and what else we can think of, so keep an eye out for those.
