Seiko Unveils The Prospex 1969 Re-Interpretation
Seiko proudly introduces the newest member of their Prospex collection: the ‘Pogue’ Solar Chronograph 1969 Re-Interpretation. This release pays homage to the legendary Seiko Speedtimer, the world’s first automatic chronograph, unveiled in 1969.
Among the pioneering Speedtimer series, one model famously made history as the first automatic chronograph to venture into space. In the 1970s, NASA astronaut Colonel William Pogue wore this iconic timepiece on a mission to Skylab. The first US space station, earning it the affectionate nickname, the ‘Pogue.’
This watch has to be one of Seiko’s most iconic. With that stunning starburst golden dial, it has to be many a collector’s grail watch. The 6139 was and still is a favourite of many. With this new release, I expect there to be an increase in sales of both the original and these new re-interpretations.

The new Prospex re-interpretation captures the essence of the original with a stunning vivid yellow dial, a hallmark of the classic chronograph. This bright backdrop is complemented by a striking red second hand and a matching subdial minute hand at the 6 o’clock position. For optimal readability in low light, the watch features 12 spots of Lumibrite on its wide, vintage-style indices.
Staying true to its heritage, the watch boasts a blue and red aluminium bezel with a tachymeter function and a chronometer second scale on the inner dial ring, all protected by a curved sapphire crystal glass.
The Golden Dial Has Returned
Seiko has modernized this chronograph with their advanced technology, equipping it with the V192 solar calibre that charges from both natural and artificial light sources. The movement is impressively accurate, maintaining precision within +/- 15 seconds per month and offering a power reserve of six months when fully charged.
