Just arrived is this stunning example of 70’s Italian watchmaking, the Pryngeps Glucydur Extra.
Founded in 1956 in Milan, Pryngeps continues to make watches today.. Their code is Quality and Elegance and this Glucydur Extra really shows that.
The ETA 2472 movement is housed in the lesser common 37mm Monnin Brevet case, with 45mm lug to lug and and 18mm lug width. The aged hands and indices show a beautiful soft patina and against the glossy black dial and surrounded by a grey ghost bidirectional bezel, looks really striking. This Pryngeps Glucydur Extra has now passed on to another collector.
Mark: There are many brands that used Monnin cases over the years, none more gorgeous than the Heuer Monnin 844 which TAG have recently launched a tribute to. What is so nice about this Pryngeps, is the 6, 9, 12 hour markers. They really make this dial stand out. A great addition to the collection bro.

Hi
I saw your review of the Pryngeps Diver in 2021
I have a 1950s Princeps Chrono with a black dial and gold furniture.
The movement is a Landeron 48 which has recently been serviced
My understanding Princeps preceded Pryngeps. Certainly both logo on the dial have the same crown detail.
I would be interested in your thoughts as to whether the two brands share the same history

Hi Russ, thank you so much for your reply. There is not much available on the brand online, but the two brands may well be linked. Sadly I no longer have the watch, but they are cracking pieces and as many of that era, much unappreciated.
I hope you have many years with it 🙂
