Ace Jewellers X Echo Neutra Averau 39 Moon Phase Noctilum
As an avid watch enthusiast, I spend much of my free time looking for what’s new and, like a magpie, something to catch my eye. Ace Jewellers, based in Amsterdam, is not on my local radar. Their frontman and managing director, Alon Ben Joseph, is becoming quite a superstar. As part of the Real-Time Show, together with WatchGecko guest author Rob Nudds, they are quite the double act.
Ace Jewellers has consistently delivered some amazing collaboration watches. None so than the Ace Jewellers X Echo Neutra Averau 39 Moon Phase Noctilum. Both brands have meshed together and produced something quite special. Off the bat, it is extremely well-designed, the Italian brand has recently been making waves with the Rivenera, however, this recent collaboration has attracted a lot of attention.
The background of the Echo Neutra founders, Nicola Callegaro and Cristiano Quaglia, of architecture and industrial design shows through in their work. Based in the Dolomite mountains, you can see their DNA within the brand.
Their counterpart in this collab is Ace Jewellers, the Amsterdam-based company that is also making waves. Founded in 1975 by the Ben Joseph family, it is now run by brothers Alon and Amir Ben Joseph. They stand out from a crowded market as they specialise in independent watch brands. Alon’s passion for watches is very contagious, and working with these independent brands, they have produced many collaboration watches.
The Averau is Echo Neutra’s take on a field watch, and it certainly stands out as a watch that deserves a second look. The collaboration piece differs from their stock model, and I feel it has some subtle changes that really make it stand out.
The 39mm brushed stainless steel case has a highly polished bezel with a brushed top surface. The case edges are also polished, elevating its appearance as the light catches them. It has a thickness of 13.5mm and a lug-to-lug of 46mm, so it will fit the majority of wrists with ease. The case back has an engraving of the Dolomite mountain, as well as Ace Jewellers. With 100m of water resistance and a scew-down crown, this won’t let you down. The crown has a knurling around it, making it super easy to screw in or out for adjustment. Covering the dial is a domed sapphire crystal covering the star of the show, the dial.
It’s extremely legible, as a field watch needs to be, giving the appearance of a skeletonised handset, which is a lovely touch. The cardinal hour markers at 12, 3, 6 & 9 have a black inner and a white BL 10-X1 SuperLuminova outer edge to match the hands. These inverted luminous hour markers and hands give amazing legibility in low-light conditions. The moon phase discs, showing both the Southern and northern hemispheres, are fully lumed, too.
This watch stands out when you get to see the lume. It has so much clarity and the cool green/blue of the lume.
There is so much to like about this watch, its wearability, comfort and looks make this a real head-turner. Its monochromatic vibe makes this work on any occasion, either dressed up for a night out or down with jeans and a tee. Either way, you will get noticed with this on your wrist.
Under the hood, powering this is the Sellita SW280, offering not only 40 hours of power reserve but the reliability you come to expect with this type of movement. It also comes in an elaboré grade, which steps this up with some basic decorations (not that you can see them behind the solid case back) and beats at a frequency of 4Hz.
My Thoughts
It also comes on a black textile strap that has Averau stitched into it, which is another nice touch. Ace Jewellers and Echo Neutra have really upped their game with this model and are delivering an amazing value watch. This limited edition model is priced at €890.00 and is available from both Echo Neutra and Ace Jewellers.
Some collaborations can feel like a marketing exercise, but this one is anything but. It’s evident that both brands have played to their strengths. Creating a watch that feels effortlessly unified rather than artificially pieced together. Whether you appreciate the charm of a moon phase complication or have a soft spot for rugged field watches. Or, if you simply want a timepiece that lights up the night with an incredible glow, the Ace Jewellers X Echo Neutra Averau 39 Moon Phase Noctilum is well worth a closer look.
