Armin Strom’s New Limited Edition
To mark 15 years since establishing its own manufacture, Armin Strom, an independent Swiss watchmaker, has introduced a fresh take on its groundbreaking resonance complication with the Dual Time GMT Resonance First Edition. With only 25 units available, this limited-release timepiece features a highly coveted 39mm case crafted from 18-karat white gold.

What is Resonance?
In watchmaking, achieving Resonance involves placing two movements within a single case so that their balance wheels influence and regulate each other through subtle, shared vibrations. This synchronisation allows the balance wheels to enter a state of Resonance, where they naturally counteract the effects of gravity and wrist movement, enhancing timekeeping accuracy.
The main advantages of Resonance in watches capable of sustaining this phenomenon are maintaining consistent timekeeping and maximising precision. Chronometric consistency, where a watch gains or loses the same number of seconds daily, was historically crucial for solving the “Longitude Problem” in maritime navigation.
How Their Approach Differs
Armin Strom’s unique take on Resonance sets itself apart from other timepieces through several innovative features. Unlike traditional Resonance watches that use existing components like the main plate to transmit vibrations, Armin Strom employs a patented “clutch spring” suspension system, inspired by Antide Janvier’s Resonance Clock, specifically designed to serve as a vibrational link between the balance wheels.
This custom approach allows the timepiece to proactively counteract the effects of external factors such as wrist motion, gravity, and temperature changes, rather than simply correcting deviations after they occur. As a result, Armin Strom’s Resonance watches offer unmatched resilience, ensuring that the twin balance wheels stay in perfect synchronization across all positions, leading to superior timekeeping consistency and precision.
