Apiar’s Cosmic Blast
Following the success of Apiar’s debut watch, the Invenire v1.0, the brand is unveiling a special edition called the Apiar Invenire ERB. Created in partnership with artist and renowned watch customiser Chris Alexander (known as @thedialartist), the ERB brings an artistic flair that nods to high watchmaking, with meticulously hand-painted elements throughout.
ERB, short for Einstein-Rosen Bridge (or ‘wormhole’), references the captivating scientific theory proposed by Einstein, where immense energy could warp space and time. While the watch won’t fold space-time, it embodies the intrigue of this concept with a creative and playful approach to design.
Deep Voyage Wormhole
The adventure starts at the dial, where a hand-painted figure of an astronaut drifts, attached to a concave, cosmos-inspired centre that draws them closer to the “wormhole’s” core. Their glowing tether, infused with lume, lights up to signify their deeper voyage into space’s unknown depths.
Encircling this, the case’s open, lattice-like structure mirrors the curved form of a scientific wormhole model, twisting as if bending light itself. Vibrant enamel-filled slits run along the lattice, symbolising beams of light arcing and stretching through the warped fabric of space-time, adding a dynamic sense of cosmic energy.
Einstein Rosen Bridge
Turning the watch over reveals the journey’s end: the astronaut, altered by their traversal through the wormhole, emerges in a distant galaxy—changed by the adventure. They reflect a new sense of purpose, embodying transformation and discovery. The caseback design mirrors this shift, with intricate details symbolising the fresh perspectives gained from venturing into the unknown.
From the cosmic-inspired dial to the twisted case lattice and colourful enamel touches, this timepiece encapsulates the spirit of endless exploration, celebrating humanity’s boundless curiosity. It’s not just a watch; it’s a visual tale of adventure, growth, and the mysteries of the universe.
The Apiar Invenire ERB has many unique features. Firstly, the Additive Manufacturing process that they use to produce the case. It has a superfine bead-blasted finish that gives a smooth, fine lustre to it. As the titanium case has been skeletonised, it’s very light and extremely durable. The colours on the case and dial add a subtle pop and add to its intrigue. I love the hand-painted spaceman too, almost floating under the glass.
It’s great to see brands trying something different, and those collectors with a space or scientific passion will appreciate the level of detail that @thedialartist has achieved. I also can’t remember seeing a 3d printed strap either. Apiar has achieved an almost suede/rubber mix that is very comfortable and fits with the theme of the watch. Priced at £2500.00 (excl VAT), this for some may be a stretch too much, but avid fans will appreciate the lengths that have been gone to achieve the ERB.
