So this morning I had another delivery, this was kind of bought on a whim, as I just “liked the look of it”.
I’d never heard of Raketa before but as I already own a Vostok, I thought I’d take a punt.
The Raketa Goroda World Timer, dating from the 1980s, was made in the Petrodvorets Watch Factory in the USSR. They have been making Victory watches since 1930, although the company “Imperial Peterhof Factory” dates back to 1721.
The Petrodvorets Watch Factory is one of the very few companies that manufacture every part of the movement themselves. The Raketa was first made in the early 60’s in honour of Yuri Gagarin’s space flight.
The Goroda (Cities) has a 42mm x 45mm x 12mm case but wears much smaller. It has a lug width of 18mm and a 2628.H movement featuring date, hours, minutes & seconds.
It was made with 4 colour options, Blue, Bordeaux, Green and a Chocolate Brown. The last 3 are the hardest to find.
The dial and case are known to suffer from age, but if you can find a decent Raketa Goroda World Timer, you can get one for under £100.
