Isotope Old Radium Black Ink Bronze
Out of the block, this is a cracking-looking watch from Isotope. The Old Radium Black Ink Bronze is a collaboration piece between Isotope and Espiral do Tempo (Spiral Of Time) a Portuguese watch magazine. The overall look and feel of this piece is (as Isotope call this) Rock and Roll. Agreed, this is a prime example of a Pilots watch for those looking for something special.
The deep black dial evokes many thoughts and feelings as you see it for the first time, so let’s get this on my wrist and give you our Watch Brothers thoughts.
Sophistication & Rugged Elegance
There is something rather charming and cool about a black watch, especially when paired with the bronze case and highlights on the dial. Wearing a black and bronze watch evokes a sense of timeless sophistication and rugged elegance. The combination of black and bronze creates a striking contrast that commands attention while exuding a sense of understated luxury. There’s a distinct feeling of confidence that comes with adorning such a watch as if you’re wearing a piece of history on your wrist.
The deep, rich tones of black and bronze add depth and character to any ensemble, whether it’s a casual outfit or formal attire. It’s a versatile accessory that effortlessly complements a wide range of styles. Making it a go-to choice for any occasion. Moreover, the unique blend of colours adds an element of mystery and intrigue. It invites admiration and curiosity from onlookers. Overall, wearing a black and bronze watch is an experience that combines refinement, strength, and timeless appeal.
A Real Bronze Beauty
Let’s start with the case material it’s a CuSn8 bronze, an alloy composed of 92% copper, 7.7% tin, and 0.3% phosphorus. This will develop a controlled patina over time for a distinctive appearance. All case components are crafted from bronze, except for the titanium case back that supports the sapphire glass.
Shielded by anti-reflective sapphire glass, the slim epoxy enamel dial embodies the style and legibility of vintage aviator timepieces that inspired the Old Radium collection. The Arabic numerals and sword hands are both filled with Super-LumiNova and enhance the overall look. The warm bronze hue of the hands and numerals complements the bronze case perfectly. While the black date window provides essential calendar information. Engraved with the serial number, the titanium case back offers a view of the Swiss automatic calibre Landeron 24, boasting a 40-hour power reserve.
My Thoughts
Some watches you wear, you get an instant connection with the brand the moment you put it on your wrist. You understand what they were trying to achieve when they designed it. As I wore this, I had that same feeling. So much thought has gone into the design of this watch. It’s all in the details, and there are many to list. For instance, the lume-tipped hands are so subtle that under low light, they help with telling the time. On the case back, there are 9 teardrops (lacrima) shapes, this is part of the Isotope DNA.
