Two brothers, best friends, and twins who share an intense passion for watch collecting. While our love for watches has spanned over two decades, it was during the Lockdown of 2020 that our hobby transformed into a full-blown obsession. With the world on pause and plenty of time on our hands, our modest collections rapidly expanded from a few cherished pieces to what some might call an overwhelming number.
As identical twins, we share not just our looks but also many of our interests and personality traits. Our lives have often mirrored each other in uncanny ways. Whether it’s our career choices, hobbies, or the way we think, we’re often on the same wavelength. However, our tastes in several areas of life have always diverged. We’ve had different preferences when it comes to women, fashion, cars, and even haircuts. But there’s one area where our tastes align almost eerily: watches.

Our journey into the world of horology began in our teenage years. Our fascination with watches started with a simple appreciation for their mechanics and design. Over the years, this interest grew as we learned more about the craftsmanship and history behind some of the world’s most iconic timepieces. By the time we reached adulthood, watches had become more than just a hobby—they were a significant part of our lives.
The COVID-19 pandemic brought with it a period of unprecedented change. Like many others, we found ourselves with more free time than ever before. With our regular routines disrupted, we turned to our shared passion for watches as a way to stay engaged and connected.
Lockdown became the perfect opportunity to dive deeper into the world of watch collecting. Online forums, virtual auctions, and social media groups became our playgrounds. We immersed ourselves in research, learning about different brands, models, and the stories behind them. Our collections, which had been growing steadily, suddenly began to expand at an accelerated pace. Each new acquisition felt like a small victory during those uncertain times.
Despite our differing tastes in many aspects of life, when it comes to watches, our preferences are surprisingly similar. This alignment in our watch-collecting tastes has often led to some amusing situations. It’s not uncommon for us to discover that we’ve both been eyeing the same model or have similar thoughts about a particular brand’s latest release.
Today, our collections are a testament to our shared passion and our individual journeys within the world of watch collecting. They reflect our love for both the technical aspects of watchmaking and the artistry involved in each piece. We cherish the stories each watch tells, not just about the brand or its history but also about our personal experiences and the moments we’ve shared together.
As we look ahead, our enthusiasm for watches shows no signs of waning. We continue to explore new brands and models, always on the lookout for the next piece that will capture our hearts. Our collections may have grown considerably, but each watch we acquire brings with it a new story and a new chapter in our shared journey.
Mark’s Collection: A Mix of Durability and Functionality
Mark’s early collection was a practical blend of durability and functionality. His daily companions were a classic Breitling and an Apple Watch, catering to his needs for both traditional elegance and modern convenience. However, his true workhorse was an old Tissot T-Touch, which he purchased around 2005. Despite its age, the Tissot remains a steadfast part of his routine, especially for tasks where durability is paramount, like gardening or any activity prone to bumps and scratches.
This Tissot T-Touch isn’t just any old watch—it’s a rugged, reliable companion that has aged gracefully. Its impressive set of six multifunction capabilities—Meteo, Altimeter, Chrono, Compass, Alarm, and Thermo—sets it apart. It’s not quite a smartwatch by today’s standards, but it was remarkably advanced for its time, offering features close to a smartwatch a full decade before the Apple Watch revolutionized wearable technology.
Neil’s Collection: A Journey Through Time and Technology
Neil’s watch collection followed a similarly eclectic path, reflecting a broad interest without a specific focus. Over the years, he amassed a variety of timepieces that each told a different story. His collection included an Ellesse Chronograph, several Casios known for their everyday practicality, a Seiko, and a striking Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean. Unfortunately, he discovered that the Omega, a treasured part of his collection, was a counterfeit. Despite this setback, it became a valuable lesson in the complexities of watch collecting.
Neil also explored the world of smartwatches, staying ahead of the curve with his tech-savvy choices. He owned a Pebble watch, a pioneer in the smartwatch arena and the most funded Kickstarter campaign of its time in 2012. This early foray into the world of smart wearables was followed by the acquisition of an Apple Watch, aligning with his interest in blending traditional watch aesthetics with modern technological advancements.
As we reflect on our early collections, it’s clear that both of us approached watch collecting from a place of curiosity and practicality. Mark’s preference for multifunctional, durable watches that could withstand his active lifestyle contrasted with Neil’s journey through a variety of styles and technologies. Together, our collections tell a story of evolving tastes and interests, from the rugged reliability of a Tissot T-Touch to the cutting-edge innovation of a Pebble smartwatch.
These early experiences laid the foundation for our deeper dive into the world of horology. They taught us about the importance of functionality, the thrill of discovering new technologies, and the lessons learned from unexpected surprises. As we continue to explore and expand our collections, we carry forward these insights, appreciating the unique blend of tradition and innovation that defines our shared passion for watches.
